When two Israelite spies entered Jericho, Rahab welcomed them into her home. Although she risked her own safety, she chose to protect them because she believed the God of Israel was the true God.

“For the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.”

Joshua 2:11

“Indeed, when we come into the land, you shall tie this cord of scarlet thread in the window through which you let us down…”

Joshua 2:18

Rahab obeyed. When the walls of Jericho fell, she and her family were rescued exactly as God had promised.

Her story did not end there. She became part of Israel, married Salmon, became the mother of Boaz, and eventually became an ancestor of King David and of Jesus Christ Himself.

Only God can write a story like that.

What Does the Story of Rahab Teach?

Rahab’s life teaches several lessons that still encourage Christians today.

1. God Offers Grace to Everyone

No one is too far from God’s love. Rahab’s past did not prevent God from welcoming her into His family. Likewise, our mistakes do not have to define our future when we place our faith in Him.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

Ephesians 2:8

God’s grace is still available today. He delights in restoring lives that seem beyond repair.

2. Faith Leads to Action

Rahab did more than believe. She acted on her faith by protecting the spies and obeying their instructions.

“In the same way, was Rahab the prostitute not justified by works also when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?”

James 2:25

Our actions cannot earn salvation. However, genuine faith naturally produces obedience. As we trust God, our choices begin to reflect that trust.

“By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after she had welcomed the spies in peace.”

Hebrews 11:31

What an incredible reminder. The woman once known for her sinful past became known for her faith.
