In this Bible study lesson from Exodus 20:15, we’ll take a look at the 8th commandment. And, you’ll find it’s not exactly as black & white as we’d like to believe.
Question; Have you ever stolen anything?
Before you answer, let’s look at everything in our lives.
The 8th commandment covers everything from taking a cookie from the jar when we were young, to not exactly reporting every ounce of income at one time or another.
Should I go on?
Actually, the 8th commandment in the Book of Exodus is very simple to understand. But, it becomes sometimes difficult to follow.

What is Stealing? Commandment Number Eight Tells Us
When we think of stealing, we tend to think of things like shoplifting or bank robbery.
We would NEVER do anything like that! Right?
It is a fact that most of us would not steal from a store. Or, we wouldn’t keep the change if the sales clerk made a mistake in our favor.
But, what about other forms of stealing?

It’s almost a national pastime.
No matter how little we fudge on claims or exemptions, basically we are stealing.
Whatever form it takes and, no matter how little the amount, stealing is wrong and displeases God. According to Him, sin is sin.
The ten commandments are very clear in most cases. In fact, the US courts are based on these two tablets given to Moses by God.
And remember, He did not say, “Thou shalt not steal a large amount.”
