Mary Visits Elizabeth – Christmas Story

In this continuing Christmas story, Mary visits Elizabeth the two are awakened to the truth of these births to come. Although she herself was pregnant with a son she had longed for, Elizabeth could have envied Mary, whose son would be even greater than her own.

But Elizabeth did not feel any jealousy toward Mary. Instead, she was filled with joy and excitement that the mother of her Lord would visit her. Let’s continue to see what happens.

The Bible study today covers more of the Christmas story as told in Luke 1:41-45. So, let’s explore the amazing response from Elizabeth when Mary greeted her.

The Christmas Story – Mary Visits Elizabeth

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me? – Luke 1:41-43 NASB

Sharing the Happiness of Others

In some way or another, we have all felt jealousy or envy toward people whom God has seemingly selected for special blessings. However, there is a cure for this feeling.

We can rejoice and be happy for those people, realizing that God uses his people in ways best suited to His purpose. We can also remember that God’s blessings are not reserved for one person, but for everyone. He chooses different paths for different people, and you never know when He may choose to bless you in an unexpected way.

You are Special to God Too!

Remember, God is using you and me right now for some purpose.

If you are not sure about what you are doing for God or what He is asking of you, just say an earnest prayer and ask Him what you can do. He will give you an assignment to help further His kingdom.

The assignment may or may not be as glamorous or exciting as you expected but everyone has a part in the kingdom of God. There is no small job. Every task is important and essential in furthering God’s kingdom and He will guide you to the right path. God assigns work for His greater purpose. And, each has value.

“… To The Moon!”

Back in the 1960’s during the heat of the space race, a female custodian was sweeping the floor of the NASA control room. When asked by reporters how she felt working as a custodian at NASA, she replied;

“I’m not just working as a janitor and sweeping the floor. I’m helping to send a man to the moon!”

Attitude Counts!

We can learn from this lesson and do our job for God with a whole different attitude.

After all, we are not just “sweeping the floor“. We are building an empire far greater than any on earth – The Kingdom of God!

By recognizing our duty, we can truly build something great for God and make the world a better place. Let’s get to work!

Love in Christ
