Descendants of Adam – See Adam’s Descendants Including Noah
Bible Study Lesson from Genesis 5:1-32
Here is a list of Adam’s descendants including Noah.
Just a short section in history of the chain of events eventually leading to Moses.
Adam’s Descendants
This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God.
He created them male and female, and He blessed them and named them Man in the day when they were created.
When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth.
Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and he had other sons and daughters.
So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died.
Seth lived one hundred and five years, and became the father of Enosh. 7 Then Seth lived eight hundred and seven years after he became the father of Enosh, and he had other sons and daughters.
So all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years, and he died.
Enosh lived ninety years, and became the father of Kenan.
Then Enosh lived eight hundred and fifteen years after he became the father of Kenan, and he had other sons and daughters.
So all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years, and he died.
Kenan lived seventy years, and became the father of Mahalalel.
Then Kenan lived eight hundred and forty years after he became the father of Mahalalel, and he had other sons and daughters.
So all the days of Kenan were nine hundred and ten years, and he died. Read All Verses Here (NASB)
Adam – Generations
Whew, that’s a lot of relatives. Can you imagine a family reunion with your 560 year old uncle eating mashed potatoes?
When reading this I was amazed by the longevity of life during these Biblical times.
What made them live such long lives?
According to many scholars there are at least three possible theories for people living longer:
1. The Pure Human Race – Genetically, humans were more purebred meaning less disease therefore leading to longer lives.
2. No Rain – This was during the time before rainfall. So, the water in the atmosphere did not allow as much penetration of UV rays and other pollutants from the environment to come through that cause faster aging of human beings.
3. Population of the Species – God had commanded His people to “fill the earth” and gave them longer lives in order to fulfill His will.
I must lean toward the 3rd theory as the other two might well be tied to the will of God. Imagine that!
