Jesus’ Healing Ministry: The Bleeding Woman

In Matthew 9:18-34, we see powerful examples of Jesus’ healing ministry, where He performs miraculous acts of compassion and care. Among these, one story stands out: when Jesus heals the bleeding woman. This moment reveals not only His divine power but also His deep understanding of human suffering and faith.

While physical healing is incredible, the greatest lesson we can take from this is how Jesus offers healing for our sin—a miracle that transforms our hearts and lives. Let’s explore this profound story and the life-changing power of His ministry together.

Verses About Jesus’ Healing Ministry – Story of Faith and Hope

While He was saying these things to them, a synagogue official came and bowed down before Him, and said, “My daughter has just died; but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will live.”

Jesus got up and began to follow him, and so did His disciples.

And a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak; for she was saying to herself, “If I only touch His garment, I will get well.”

But Jesus turning and seeing her said, “Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.”

At once the woman was made well.

When Jesus came into the official’s house, and saw the flute-players and the crowd in noisy disorder, He said, “Leave; for the girl has not died, but is asleep.” And they began laughing at Him.

But when the crowd had been sent out, He entered and took her by the hand, and the girl got up.

This news spread throughout all that land. – Matthew 9:18-26 NASB

Jesus Heals the Bleeding Woman: A Story of Faith and Hope

At first glance, the story of Jesus healing the bleeding woman seems centered on His miraculous healing power. While the healing itself is extraordinary, the passage offers a deeper message. It’s about faith and hope.

Faith in Action

In each of the accounts surrounding Jesus’ healing ministry, one key element stands out: faith. Before Jesus performed miracles, people expressed their unwavering belief in His ability to heal and restore.

Some examples of faith include:

  • “Lay Your hand on her, and she will live.”
  • “If I only touch His garment, I will get well.”
  • “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”

Faith requires more than just asking. We must believe that God can work in situations that seem impossible. But, faith doesn’t guarantee that everything will happen exactly as we want. God isn’t a magician granting wishes. Instead, He works according to His will. He often answers prayers in ways we don’t understand. You see, God sees the “big picture”; we don’t. However, I do believe the ultimate outcome benefits us–either now or later.

Hope in the Midst of Despair

In this passage, Jesus shows us the power of hope. An example is the synagogue official who came to Jesus after his daughter had already died. He came to Christ because it seemed too late for anyone else to help. Yet, he approached Jesus with hope. He trusted in His ability to make the impossible possible.

So, the lesson is: no matter how bleak a situation may seem, it’s never too late to turn to Christ. Even when we feel like there’s no one else to turn to, Jesus waits. He provides what we need—though not always in the way we expect.

Only Believe

Jesus gives us both faith and hope in the face of life’s challenges. When we feel weighed down by worry, fear, or uncertainty, He reminds us to trust in His ability to handle it all.

No matter what is happening in the world or in our personal lives, God is in control. His power is limitless, and His love is steadfast. By placing our faith in Him, we open ourselves to possibilities. But remember, in Matthew 26 Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. He asked for a miracle to save Him from the cross. But in faith He said: “yet not as I will, but as You will.

Let’s find encouragement from this passage. Ultimately, no situation is beyond God’s reach. All we need to do is believe.

Love in Christ
