Bible Study Lessons from Matthew 9:18-34
During His ministry we find that Jesus heals many and these chapters in Matthew show just a few of His miracles.
But, the most relevant healing Christ performed and the life lesson for us is the healing of our sin.
Let’s read about the greatest miracle Jesus can do …
Verses About Jesus’ Healing Ministry – Story of Faith and Hope
While He was saying these things to them, a synagogue official came and bowed down before Him, and said, “My daughter has just died; but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will live.”
Jesus got up and began to follow him, and so did His disciples.
And a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak; for she was saying to herself, “If I only touch His garment, I will get well.”
But Jesus turning and seeing her said, “Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.”
At once the woman was made well.
When Jesus came into the official’s house, and saw the flute-players and the crowd in noisy disorder, He said, “Leave; for the girl has not died, but is asleep.” And they began laughing at Him.
But when the crowd had been sent out, He entered and took her by the hand, and the girl got up.
This news spread throughout all that land. – Matthew 9:18-26 NASB
Jesus Heals Bleeding Woman
At first glance, it seems that these passages are all about healing and miracles. I certainly don’t want to take away from the miraculous healing power of God, not at all.
With that said, I’d like to concentrate on faith and hope which I believe are at the core of these verses.
Faith
I’m sure you noticed that each of the people who came to Jesus with their various medical situations first told Christ that they believed He could heal them – or even bring back a life.
In the following excerpts, we find faith in statements such as …
- ” lay Your hand on her, and she will live.”
- “If I only touch His garment, I will get well.”
- “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”
Believing
Faith means that God, through belief, can change things that sometimes seem unchangeable.
Many times we pray and ask God for healing, or help in other areas of our lives but we have that small doubt – believing that it will not really happen.
If we have the faith, God can work in our lives.
Does this mean that everything we pray for will happen just as we ask?
No, God is not a magic show. He works in accordance to his will.
Sometimes prayer is answered in ways we don’t understand – but God does!
Hope
The hope in this message is that it’s never too late as long as we are alive.
The synagogue official did not come to Jesus until his daughter was dead; too late for anyone else to help her.
When it seems too late for anyone to help us, we can always go to Christ and ask. He may not always give us exactly what we ask for but He always gives us what is best.
Only Believe

No matter what is going on in the world around us, God is still in control.
No job is too big for Him.
