Jesus Wears a Crown of Thorns in Matthew 27, continuing the Easter Story.

Jesus Wears a Crown of Thorns – Easter Story

In Matthew 27:27-31, we see the harsh reality of Jesus’ suffering. Before the crucifixion, Roman soldiers mocked Him and pressed a crown of thorns onto His head. They treated Him with cruelty and contempt, yet each painful moment fulfilled God’s plan. This had to happen for the Easter story to be complete—and for our salvation to be possible.

Easter: Jesus Wears the Crown of Thorns

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman cohort around Him.

They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him.

And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

They spat on Him, and took the reed and began to beat Him on the head.

After they had mocked Him, they took the scarlet robe off Him and put His own garments back on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him. – Matthew 27:27-31

They Mocked Him with the Crown of Thorns

The next time you see someone making fun of a Christian because of their faith, go back and read Matthew 27:27 through 31. This passage reminds us of the strength and resilience required to maintain faith in the face of mockery and persecution. It serves as an example of how steadfast belief can endure even the harshest ridicule. The broader message is that true faith remains unshaken by external derision, finding strength in conviction and purpose.

Christian Persecution

People of the Christian faith have been ridiculed for as long as I can remember. In various parts of the world some are even put to death; either for their faith or trying to convert someone of a different religion.

The news media seldom reports these stories but many examples are listed on websites such as Persecution.org.

I’m not writing this to make people aware of what Christians are going through. Someone may poke fun at you (or me) one day for our faith.

When that happens, remember there is very little we can go through in this life that vaguely resembles the pain and torture Jesus sustained before the crucifixion and on the cross. He endured the most unimaginable pain so that we may have eternal life.

Why Jesus Died

Christ suffered an horrendous death on the cross so that we could be forgiven for our sins. Be content to put up with an annoyance in His name.

We can never repay Christ. He died for a debt He did not owe so that we can one day stand before God with Jesus as our Savior. Easter is almost here so let’s remember what Christ did for us.
