Bible Study Lesson, Exodus 5: 22-23, 6:1-12
This Scripture reading from Exodus shows Moses as impatient with God.
God promised deliverance of Israel (see the deliverance promise) but it didn’t happen today. Lets see what response Moses gave to God.
Bringing back the message of “no deliverance” to the people of Israel did not help Moses’ popularity.
Remember in part 1 of the deliverance of Israel we saw that Moses wanted “instant gratification” which doesn’t always work with God. His plan was not in tune with God’s plan.
The patience of Moses wore thin quickly, so he approached God to complain.
The Deliverance Promise 2 – The Waiting Is The Hardest Part
Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
“Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the sons of Israel go out of his land.”
But Moses spoke before the Lord, saying, “Behold, the sons of Israel have not listened to me; how then will Pharaoh listen to me, for I am unskilled in speech?” – Exodus 6:10-12 NASB
Impatience and Fast Results from God – Moses Wanted Action!
Remember the bricks without straw Pharaoh declared upon the people of Israel when Moses approached him for the first time?
Well, with the people against him because of their extra workload and no signs of deliverance, Moses became discouraged and protested to God.
A Lesson in Patience
A favorite pastor of mine once put it plainly. When we ask God for something in sincere prayer; we can know two things ..
- God is Never in a Hurry
- God is Never Late
Yes, some prayers are answered quickly – some might take years to come about.
God always answers but always within his will and within his time frame as we cannot predict what the future holds – He can!
God’s Plan for Us
Just as God had a plan for the Israelites, he has a plan for us too. I won’t pretend to know why God did not just free the people from bondage on the very first day.
He might have been testing Moses; the people; Pharaoh?
I don’t know God’s mind. But, what I do know is that everything works within His plan and God is always with us.
Our Problems

It doesn’t take very much patience to wait for small problem resolution but, when a paramount situation exists, it’s more difficult for us to wait.
Just remember when these situations arise in our lives, God can exercise his mighty power just as He did with Israel when He brought the Hebrews out of bondage from Egypt. I’ve thought about and repeated this verse from a song I love many times;
“Hold on, my God will show up; and take me through the fire again.”
